Scholarships in Uganda are one of the ways for students to migrate to another country with the sole aim to study. Most students find it difficult due to a lack of sponsors to fund their tuition fees For this reason, some might opt for a part-time job to finance their day-to-day expenses. The essence of the scholarships in Uganda is another alternative route for students to study their courses.

Uganda happens to be a landlocked country located in the Eastern part of Africa. They have their education structure starting from primary, secondary, and post-secondary education. The government is offering scholarships because it is expected for everyone to be educated including young and aged ones. In Uganda, diverse scholarships are covering numerous fields, and enable students to pay their travel expenses, accommodation, tuition fees, etc.

Scholarships in Uganda 

There are different scholarships in Uganda, and here they are:

  1. Makerere University Full Mastercard Scholarship:

The Mastercard Foundation comes into a collaboration with Makerere University to provide numerous scholarships to students in different levels of education. Qualified students have the opportunity of winning financial benefits to fund their education throughout their period in the school.

Criteria for the Scholarship

  • Applicant must be an undergraduate student of a Ugandan institution
  • Good outstanding academic results
  • Leadership experience
  • Willingness to contribute back to his or her community

  • Feeding, accommodation, and monthly allowance
  • Laptop gadget and learning aid
  • Free transportation
  • Medical insurance, etc.

  1. Scholarship Opportunities At Uganda Management Institute:

The sponsor of the scholarship is African Development Bank through the High Education Science and Technology (HEST). Before a student can be eligible for it, they must fulfill certain criteria.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

  • Ugandan citizens
  • Must be a postgraduate or Master’s student
  • Not above 45 years old
  • The applicants shouldn’t be sponsored by any scholarship program
  • Must not be associated with any UMI staff

Scholarship Benefit:

  • Full tuition fee
  1. ACALISE Postgraduate Scholarships:

It is one of the joint scholarships in Uganda for postgraduate students. World bank is the sponsor of the scholarship through the Ugandan government. They have a definite goal which is to trained experts skilled in Agro-Ecology and Livelihood Systems.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

  • Must be a good citizen of a Sub-Saharan country either by birth or naturalization.
  • A conditional or provincial admission from either Makerere University, Martyrs University, or Wangari Maathai Institute.
  • Regional female candidates from groups with financial problems are eligible for application
  • Applicants must have some level of English proficiency for their application to be considered

Scholarship Benefit:

  • The tuition fee of the student is covered, but other costs such as feeding, accommodation, transportation, etc. will be met by the student. Also, regional students have the avenue or receiving full tuition fee, while National students can get half tuition fees.

  1. IFRA Fieldwork Grants For Masters & Doctoral Students:

It is among the scholarships in Uganda offered by the French Institute for Research in Africa. Master’s and Doctoral students are the beneficiaries of the scholarship grant, and it helps them to carry out more research in their given field in different Eastern countries such as Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

  • Applicants for the IFRA grants must possess either a Master’s or Doctoral degree

Scholarship Benefit:

Successful candidates get between the sum of €500 to 1,000, but then it depends on their country of residency.

  1. KCMUCo MSc Scholarships:

The full meaning of KCMUCo is Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College and they are responsible for offering scholarships to Tanzania students. Any student with an interest to study Master’s courses such as Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, and Pathology can obtain the scholarship.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

  • It is vital for applicants to possess either an MD or MBChB degree
  • A minimum of B+ grade is necessary for any course
  • A minimum GPA score of 3.5
  • At the time of application, the last degree shouldn’t be more than six years
  • The admission letter into any university should be from a reputable Eastern African university.
  • Well-detailed personal statement during the scholarship interview
  • non-English speaking candidates should display some level of English language proficiency.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Successful candidates get full tuition fees, research funds, and monthly allowance to cover their daily expenses.
  1. UTAMU Masters Scholarships In Uganda:

It is one of the regional scholarships in Uganda to finance capital projects in Agriculture, and Master’s students can benefit from the scholarship. Applicants from different parts of the world wanting to obtain a master’s degree can apply for the scholarship. The main aim of the scholarship is to improve Monitoring and Evaluation and Science in Computing.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

  • A research paper is essential for any applicant applying for the scholarship
  • Finish the master’s degree within the stipulated time frame. For instance, if a student is undergoing a postgraduate degree that is two years, it is expected for them to finish it within the two years stipulated for the program.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Full tuition fee for successful candidates, but the student will get the fund through installment payment.
  1. IHSU Scholarships For Ugandan Students:

The International Health Sciences University is the major organizer for the scholarship. The motive for the scholarship is to groom graduates with good conduct and the right skills to possess adequate skills and knowledge that will make them become good citizens in their respective countries.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

  • They must be admitted to a given course before they can get the IHSU scholarships for Uganda.

Scholarship Benefits:

This scholarship comes with benefits for various undergraduate courses such as Bachelors of Nursing Science (full-tuition scholarship), Diploma in Public Health (full-tuition scholarship), Master’s in Public Health (50% subsidized tuition fee), Bachelors of Medical Laboratory Science (full tuition fee), Bachelors Public Health (50% subsidized tuition).
