Employers use different types of interviews to screen applicants searching for jobs in their organization. Hiring managers or recruiters ask further questions to ensure you are the right candidate for the job. Every company they have an interview method to evaluate applicants.

What is a Job Interview?   

It is a formal meeting that involves the recruiter and the applicant. It is a medium used to test applicants by asking them numerous questions to get important information. The recruiter or hiring manager asks questions while the applicant answers those questions. Also, the recruiter will use the applicant’s data to check their knowledge, scrutinize their attitude, examine their skills, etc.

After the interviewer has carried out a proper evaluation, they will employ you if they see you as their ideal candidate. On the other hand, if you are not fit for the job they won’t accept you. It is crucial to know the different types of interviews to prepare your mind to get the essential things to succeed.

Types of Interview

  1. Traditional Interview:

One type of interview involves meeting another individual to discuss your resume or credentials. Generally, the individual is usually either a supervisor or manager. The interview is held inside an office or conference room. Also, you will be ready to provide answers to questions like your experience, skills, and education regarding the job role. If you want to perform well in any traditional interview, it is essential to research the company.

  1. Group Interview:

It involves organizing interviews for multiple people at the same time. For instance, twenty candidates may apply for the housekeeping post; the interviewer would like to interview everyone simultaneously. In this interview, you may want to feel inferior, but being friendly and polite with other applicants is the best thing to do. If you give exceptional answers, you will likely differentiate yourself from others.

  1. Video Interview:

Remote employers conduct video interviews for their candidates when hiring them for vacant positions. It is advisable to dress professionally like the regular offline interview. Also, ensure you are sitting in a tidy place with a neutral backdrop for the hiring manager to focus on you. Never try to stay in a noisy place during a video interview to prevent noise interference.

  1. Stress Interview:

It is one of the least you are likely to encounter with a hiring manager. General managers occupying high-stress positions would like to use this interview method to assess you. It is o of the type of interviews you will get to hear unusual questions from the employer rather than asking you about your work experience, skills, academic qualifications, etc. For instance, they might ask you to provide answers to a word puzzle. The essence is to check how you handle stress during intense work.

  1. Job Fair Interview:

Many firms send their representatives to different job fairs to help them inform other people about job vacancies in their organizations. They get resumes from various attendees during the conversation, reviewing later to find potential employees. You are advised to print different copies of your resume to submit it to any company that interests you. Also, you can request their business cards for proper follow-up.

  1. Final Interview:

It is the last step in any interview process before an organization hires you. It is crucial to pass preliminary interviews before getting to the final interview. The General Manager or Chief Executive Officer will interview you when you get to the final interview. It is essential to ensure that all your answers during the previous interviews correspond with the final interview.

  1. Informational Interview:

It is an interview that requires you to meet someone in a company to know more about the different job opportunities, company, industry, and work culture. If you are a beginner in a particular field, it is advisable to use this type of interview to have further information about their various career options. You can prepare a different list of questions you will ask the interviewer.

  1. On-the-spot Interview:

It is one of the rare types of interview. When you send an application, the hiring manager will like to interview you instantly. The On-the-spot interview will let the interviewer know whether you are an excellent applicant for the role. You can read the job description to check whether it aligns with your qualification or resume before applying to get the job.

  1. Unstructured Interview:

The question in an unstructured interview will make your responses. However, this is amongst the common types of interviews. There will be questions for you already, but they might want to ask you another question from the post you are applying for. The interview is known to be casual and fluid. On the other hand, it might be less intimidating than a formal interview; still, you need to take it seriously.

  1. Panel Interview:

Different people will interview in this type of interview. Your job position might affect other people’s jobs. Therefore, when you want to answer each of the questions, you will need to direct the answer to the interviewer who asked you. Also, try to maintain eye contact with the interviewers.

  1. Restaurant or off-site interview

There are scenarios the employer will invite to a coffee hang out with them. During the hangout, you might see other hiring managers interview you. The outing might be casual; still, you need to act professionally. When you order any food, go for something that won’t be hard to eat while having a convo with the interviewer(s).

  1. Case Interview:

You will have to analyze and offer solutions to challenging business situations. Many of these situations are real-life issues that have happened in the organization. The interviewer wants to see how you handle problems that you might encounter at work. During a case interview, go through the instructions to give correct answers.
